Have you heard of the saying “Less is more”? Well, the saying applies to food too. In this case, grill. You don’t need much to produce a delicious and satisfying meal right off the grill; sometimes all it takes is a few spices and the right way to cook, and you have a delicious dish!

Try these delicious 5-ingredient grilled recipes at your next backyard barbecue:

Grilled chicken with garlic and sriracha

What do you need:

  • 1/2 kg. chicken thigh fillets

  • 2 garlic cloves, grated

  • 2 tablespoons sriracha

  • 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce (homemade or store bought)

  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste

In a bowl, combine the grated garlic, sriracha, sweet soy sauce, and tomato paste. Stir until the ingredients are well combined. Add the chicken fillets to the bowl and top with sauce. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

When done, discard the remaining marinade and place the chicken fillets in a grill pan. Cook on a preheated grill over medium-high heat until cooked through. Serve with your choice of rice or salad.

Delicious seasoned flank steak

What do you need:

  • 3/4 kg. Flank steak

  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed and peeled

  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar

  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

  • Optional

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce

  • 1/2 cup dry red wine

Combine garlic, light brown sugar, sesame oil, and ground black pepper in a bowl. If using, add soy sauce and red wine. Then mix well to get the mixture in a large zip-lock bag (like Ziploc). Place the skirt steak in the bag. Squeeze out the air, seal and store in the refrigerator for a minimum of 24 hours.

When done, defrost the steak for 20 minutes before cooking it on the grill. Cook on a preheated grill for 4-5 minutes. per side or more, depending on your desired doneness. Let the steak rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Grilled Soy Salmon

What do you need:

  • 1 1/2 kg. salmon side, cut into 6 servings, with skin

  • 1/3 cup olive oil, plus more for the grill

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

  • 1 large garlic clove, minced

Brush a grill pan with olive oil and place the salmon pieces on top. Combine 1/3 cup of olive oil, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, and garlic in a bowl to make the marinade. Reserve 2 tablespoons of the mixture and pour the rest over the salmon. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes.

When done, cook salmon on a preheated grill over medium-high heat for 4 minutes per side. Once cooked, remove the skin, for the reserved marinade and serve.
