Edgerrin James: Running back for the Arizona Cardinals

Originally from Immokalee, Florida, Edgerrin James was born on August 1, 1978. Currently serving as quarterback for the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, James has had plenty of practice when it comes to competing.

After being recruited directly from Immokalee High School in Florida, Edgerrin James enrolled at the University of Miami, where he became one of the most successful running backs in the school’s history. Not only did he rank second in all-time rushing yards at the University of Miami, Edgerrin James was also the only running back in college history to record two consecutive seasons with 1,000+ rushing yards. Additionally, he holds the school record for most rushing touchdowns in a single season, which currently stands at 17, and he also ranks first with 100+ rushing games.

From the University of Miami, Edgerrin James was drafted in the 1999 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. After signing a seven-year contract, worth $49 million, the Associated Press named Edgerrin James the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

When James’ contract with the Colts expired, he immediately signed a new contract on March 12, 2006 with the Arizona Cardinals. Reportedly worth $30 million, the new deal is said to be four years in length and is the largest Cardinal free agent signing in history.

In addition to his many accomplishments on the field, Edgerrin James is making his mark outside the 50-yard line. He has a daughter and has donated $250,000 to the University of Miami, which is the largest donation ever made to the university by one of his former athletes. Additionally, she has established the Edgerrin James Foundation, which is a charity for disadvantaged children and families.

As the 2006 NFL season approaches, fans will continue to watch James as he hopes to lead the Cardinals to victory in the Super Bowl. While it’s too early to think about the last game, most athletes strive for that same goal with every step they take on the field. Fans are sure to love the Cardinal’s new quarterback and eagerly await to see what he has to offer.
