Gamefly Vs Gamerang – Which is REALLY the best rental service?

Few will argue that when it comes to online game rentals, the two most widely used services are Gamefly and Gamerang. Both companies have a well-established business and a constantly growing member base. However, which company is best for you? Well, it depends on a number of factors. First of all, what exactly are you looking for in a game rental service? Let’s go over some of the most viewed features and compare them side by side.

game titles

In this category, Gamefly comes out on top with over 6,000 titles and growing. Gamefly has just over 4,500. However, sometimes all that matters is which one has the latest games. In that sense, both companies are aware of the new releases and the most popular games. That being said, some games are appreciated later in life. However, by having 1500 more titles than Gamerang, Gamefly is more likely to have the title you’re looking for rather than waiting for someone else to finish the game you want while waiting in a queue.

Gamefly wins.

lap time

In the past, Gamerang stole many customers from Gamefly for the simple fact that Gamefly only had one distribution center versus Gamerang’s four. This meant that delivery times were much longer for Gamefly, as games had to travel much further. For people on the East Coast, Gamefly took longer because it was based in California. However, seeing this as a growing problem, Gamefly added three distribution centers to link to Gamerang. Gamerang distribution centers are located in California, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Minnesota. Gamefly has distribution centers in California, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Florida. At this point it’s a tie and I’m sure more crosses will show up. For now, assume that either service will give you a new game in 4-7 days from when you mailed yours.

Price!

One of the biggest questions is how much will it cost? This is the current pricing structure for both:

Game prices:

  • 1 Game Out: $14.95 the first month and $17.50 each month thereafter.
  • 2 games out: flat fee of $24.95 per month
  • 3 games out: $49.95 (with a $75 refundable deposit)
  • 4 sets $59.95 (with a $100 refundable deposit)

Gamefly prices:

  • 1 Game Out: $8.95 for the first month and $15.95 each month thereafter
  • 2 games away: flat fee of $22.95
  • 3 games: $29.95 (with account valid for 60 days)
  • 4 games away: $36.95 (with account with 60 days of validity)

When it comes to pricing, Gamefly beats Gamerang in every category. Also, Gamefly has a 10-day free trial, while Gamerang does not. However, Gamerang comes with a free one-year subscription to Wired Magazine. If it’s worth the extra cost, at least it’s something to count on.

Gamefly wins.

Customer service

I heard that Gamerang has a longer history of customer service than gamefly. However, Gamefly is going strong with its attempt to curb this complaint. Whether or not Gamefly is up to date with their customer service now, Gamerang has a bigger positive response than Gamefly.

Gamerang wins due to longer record.

general

Gamerang has a great service to offer, but when you line up between professionals and professionals, Gamely simply has more. Now, with its Gamefly rewards program, customers are further rewarded with incentives based on how long they’ve been a member. However, Gamerang achieved one thing. When gamefly was mediocre service, Gamerang came in and stole a lot of the limelight with better service and faster delivery. However, this made Gamefly even better because they now not only match Gamerang but far surpass them.
