The iPhone 4S versus the BlackBerry 9900: which is better?

The market has been engrossed with the launch of BlackBerry phones, but with the recent launch of the Apple iPhone 4s, which of the two smartphones will the market prefer? Pointing out the features of each smartphone will determine which one will attract the most crowds.

The BlackBerry 9900 already has an edge over the iPhone 4s due to its QWERTY keyboard. Although equipped with this keyboard, the BlackBerry 9900 also includes a touchscreen feature on its 2.8-inch display that displays multimedia graphics in a 640×480 frame. This feature can be a turn off to the crowd due to the small screen and low graphic pixel now that the iPhone 4s has the Retina display which gives its users a full HD view of the graphics in 960×480 pixels.

The iPhone’s processor is theoretically more superior than the BlackBerry’s, but even with a dual-core A5 chip, a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM, the BlackBerry still runs faster. Although the latter does not have a dual-core A5 chip, it works faster thanks to its 1.2 GHz processor and 768 MB of RAM. It has not yet been proven which of the two performs better due to their leveling race to be the best. In terms of memory storage, the iPhone 4s offers three varieties: 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB. The BlackBerry, on the other hand, can handle 8GB of media files on its internal memory, but that can still be improved when connected with a 32GB microSD card.

When it comes to the number of supported networks, the iPhone has the upper hand because it supports both CDMA and GSM. The BlackBerry 9900 is just an upgraded version of the BlackBerry Bold that only supports GSM networks, but the BlackBerry 9930 is the one that handles the CDMA networks for all three BlackBerry smartphones. However, both the iPhone 4s and BlackBerry 9900 have an HSPA receiver that allows their users to use a 14.4 MBPS downlink. Both also have the Bluetooth function but as far as Wi-Fi connectivity is concerned, it is only possible through the iPhone. The iPhone’s version of Bluetooth is a specialized type v4.0 receiver, while the BlackBerry 9900 has the common v2.1.

The latest version of the iPhone features an update to iOS 5 (Operating System) and can handle more apps like Twitter integration, iMessages, iReminder, Notification Center and photo editing apps. In fact, both the BlackBerry 9900 and the iPhone 4s may have the iOS 5 update. However, the iPhone 4s’s advantage over the BlackBerry 9900 when it comes to hardware is its Siri, the voice recognition personal assistant.

What the BlackBerry 9900 can boast of is its BlackBerry 7 operating system which enables the phone to have a touch screen feature, BlackBerry Browser, BlackBerry Messenger 6, Liquid Graphics and application support for the BlackBerry App World store. If you want safer Internet browsing, it is more recommended to use BlackBerry due to its BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS).

The iPhone 4s price was recently revealed to be $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB and $399 for 64GB. With the BlackBerry 9900 priced at $349.99, there is a price difference between the two mobile phone products of at least 16%.
