Amazon has truly created a revolution in publishing with its Kindle platform, recent numbers from Amazon tell the story. For every 100 physical books sold on Amazon, 105 Kindle books are sold. It is estimated that Amazon has sold more than 8 million Kindles. Now that creates an opportunity, because Amazon needs content and lots of it. Amazon has leveled the playing field for small publishers (you and me) by allowing anyone to publish to Kindle and Create Space Amazon’s Publish On Demand or POD service without costing a dime, as long as the content meets their requirements. WHAT TO POST
We are going to be publishing our own range of books on Kindle and elsewhere, so we need content, so we have four options:
- Writing it ourselves is time consuming and some would say tedious and what if you feel like you can’t write (actually we all can)
- Get your ghost book written for you, you can use a service like e-lance, The Warrior Forum, or Student Gems to find a worker to do this for you. This is an expensive option and you will need to give a very strict specification for the job.
- Use public domain content: There’s a good chance that popular content is already on Kindle, but there’s a lot of public domain content that hasn’t been exploited yet. I have a strategy to get public domain works accepted for Kindle. EVEN if it is already for sale on the site
- Compile your book from PLR (Private Label Rights) materials, this is a great option, but you’ll need to approach this the right way; otherwise, Amazon will reject your books.
