Benidorm travel guide

Benidorm on the Costa Blanca is like no other resort in Spain. This unique resort has something for visitors of all ages with nearly four miles of glorious beaches and an endless variety of accommodations, restaurants, bars, entertainment, clubbing and nightlife. And not forgetting that this happy-go-lucky resort is very affordable with a wide variety of accommodations to suit all price ranges. There are always plenty of cheap last minute vacations available on the internet.

Although Benidorm has an image of high-rise buildings and non-stop nightlife, it is an excellent family resort with two of the best beaches on the Costa Blanca. These two main beaches, Levante and Poniente, have Blue Flag status and are cleaned every night by a team of cleaners. Lifeguards are stationed on the beaches from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the summer and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the winter. These soft-sand beaches are spotlessly clean, with gently sloping crystal clear waters, making them perfect for children. Another point in favor of the beaches is that they are easily accessible for people with mobility problems and disabilities. The famous Levante Beach is a mile-long stretch of golden sand with a beautiful promenade that is very popular with visitors from the UK. This lively beach has hundreds of sun loungers and excellent facilities for children. Hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars and shops line the promenade. Playa Poniente is a much quieter beach with a typically Spanish atmosphere. This is the best beach for younger children and is usually much less crowded than Playa Levante beach. Playa Poniente is ideal for a romantic stroll and watching the sunset. If you are looking for quieter and more secluded beaches, you will have to go to one of the smaller coves. Malpas beach, near the old town of Benidorm, is one of those beaches where you can also take a boat ride and see the beach and the surroundings from the sea. For even more seclusion, you’ll need to continue past Levante beach to the beautiful coves of Almadraba and Ti Ximo. A short bus ride from Benidorm is Cala Finestrat, ideal for sunbathing and leisurely swimming. There are many pristine beaches in the area, but you have to be prepared to walk to find them!

There is plenty for everyone here in Benidorm, including family days at Terra Mitica, Aqualandia and Mundomar, the interesting old town, the port, world-class golf, relaxing boat trips and numerous excursions.

Benidorm is at its liveliest in July and August, with June and September being much quieter. Although Benidorm is a year-round tourist spot, many people find spring to be the best time to visit with families, as the weather has cooled down a bit and there is much more space on the beach. Winters are popular with older tourists, as most hotels and many of the entertainment venues stay open year-round.

The Costa Blanca offers some of the best climates for beach holidays. The long summer season runs from early spring to mid-autumn. Temperatures in July and August average around 30ºC and drop to around 20ºC in the afternoons. In June and September there are still sunny days with the temperature a couple of degrees lower. The water temperature during the summer averages around 24ºC. April and May still enjoy plenty of sunshine but without the intense heat of summer and winters remain mild and sunny.

Eating out in Benidorm is cheap, but booking one of the all-inclusive late-night deals can save you money!
