‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ is a lesson in teamwork

When the screen is filled with the army of five-pointed characters who have not a single trait in common, even the mildest of skeptics will surely harbor doubts about their abilities. But all doubts are dispelled as the film progresses and the unlikely combination of five manages to save the galaxy from falling into the clutches of an autocratic tyrant.

Based on a comic strip of the same name, the movie ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ revolves around the main plot and although director James Gunn has kept all the main leads and also the supporting characters, he has deviated from the plot a bit. literary. To its credit, the detour seems to have worked well in that this audiovisual adaptation has a standalone quality while drawing its identity from a well-known series.

The story begins with the oft-discussed theme of alien abduction (courtesy of X-Files) in which a nine-year-old boy is trapped by aliens outside his home as he mourns the death of his mother and grows into a child. cheerful, bad and yet. charismatic youth in a galactic city. Much of the first half of the film is focused on developing each of the five characters in which the young man is portrayed as Peter Quill/Star Lord.

Forced by circumstances, he teams up with the ruthless, green-skinned Zamora and the muscular Draz, who is deeply embittered by his tragic past. This trio expands to a quintet when Rocket Raccoon, a glib, trigger-happy rodent, and his self-proclaimed guardian Groot, a humanoid tree, also agree to contribute.

Could there be a more unlikely group of saviors? At first it’s hard to even imagine them together, but the cohesion with which they operate, support each other, and share a tacit understanding reflects exemplary teamwork. Each of these five characters retains her unique personality, but never fails to contribute to the team when the situation calls for it. Thus, they could be described as clearly different from each other and yet united in their goal to save the galaxy, which is what teamwork is all about.

For viewers, there’s a lesson to be learned about Peter Quill’s leadership in how he balances the four remaining members and channels their talents to the benefit of the team. But the greatest lesson in friendship and loyalty comes from Groot not only when he’s busy taking care of Rocket, but also when he sacrifices himself to save his four friends from certain death by enfolding them in his invincible fold. Although the consequence is tragic, his selfless act provides enough inspiration for others to wage this war until his purpose is accomplished.

‘Unity in diversity and adversity’ is the message that emanates from this saga that takes place in the midst of the most overwhelming and surprising scenarios and is sufficiently sprinkled with humor, action and emotion. Yet for all the spectacular technological effects, ultimately it’s the message of standing up for friendship, trust, and the greater good above self that seeps through in the most subtle way possible. And each of the five warriors is tuned to respond to him in his own peculiar way, be it the eloquent Peter Quill or the reticent Groot with his varying intonations of ‘I am Groot’.
