A budget is based on income and expenses and many times we have a very tight budget, with almost no room for maneuver. The easiest way to stick to a budget is to make it fun. Here’s a simple and fun game to help you stick to your budget.
The Zero Dollar Day game is a way to become financially conscious as we slowly shift our mindset to one that finds personal finance and budgeting fun and exciting.
How to play Zero Dollar Day:
1. You need a budget
2. You need to know in advance what you are spending each day
3. You need some method to track your daily spending, like a notepad or smartphone
As the day progresses, write down everything you spend money on.
Every time you’ll give him a B or $
“B” means it was on budget and planned for
“$” means you are over budget and “in the red”
This works great with a friend that you can check in with throughout the day and compare your results. The goal is to have zero $ on your page that day.
Example:
There is no zero dollar day below:
Gasoline for car 30 B
Groceries 75B
Coffee $2.
Below is a zero dollar day:
Gasoline for car 30 B
Groceries 75B
The keys for this to work are:
Make your budget and know what you are budgeted to spend each day.
Keep a small notebook with you throughout the day (or use a smartphone)
Decide in advance what is fun
Have a friend to do this, although it can be done alone
