How to unlock your hidden creativity

Maybe you just feel like you’re not a creative person in general, or maybe you just want a little push to get you the solution you’re looking for. Either way, there are many small actions you can take to become more creative. These tips can make you see things from different perspectives and develop the habit that will make you feel more productive and inspired.

Here are ways to unlock your hidden creativity:

Brainstorm with others
Sometimes all it takes to go from burnout to motivation or from a relatively ineffective idea to the perfect solution to all your problems is a few moments of chatting about your ideas with someone else. Having a new perspective can help you recall ideas he might have forgotten, develop ideas he already has, and come up with things he never would have considered on his own. If you’re really stumped, make an effort to have an instant brainstorming period with a friend or coworker. Ask when you can pitch them some ideas and find out if they really have any ideas.

talk to yourself
It is not about having imaginary interactions with yourself. It’s about conversing through your ideas and thoughts so you can do better. Spend some time talking out loud about what you are thinking, or describe things you read or hear to yourself. It can help you learn and process things better and in new ways.

make lists
Write down everything you want or need in relation to what you are focusing on. Sometimes the act of writing things down and looking at them can help you figure out how to deal with something from a new angle. Write down any ideas you have, then think about how precisely those ideas will continue to work with what you need to achieve. Continue down your list until you select a remedy that works or figure out a way to incorporate them.

keep a notebook with you
If you want to get more creative, you’ll need to make sure you’re motivated to attack, as you can attack anywhere. Keep a notebook and pen with you at all times so you can jot down any ideas you have when they come your way, otherwise you may forget about it. Plus, always getting a notebook means you’ll have a place to write down those lists you’ll be making.

ask yourself questions
Anytime you feel like you’ve hit a creative wall, try asking yourself questions about whatever it is you’re focusing on or trying to figure out. Even if they seem like silly questions to which you have an answer, ask yourself anyway as if you were another person interested in putting together your project. Forcing yourself to ultimately articulate what you’re focusing on, either out loud or in writing, can help you see what areas you’ll need to focus on and what needs to be changed. If you ask yourself a question you don’t know the answer to, you may find a new perspective.
