Time and life, little by little

Looking out my picture window during a recent winter storm,
I felt like I was in a giant snowball. Big fluffy snowflakes were falling,
covering everything with a pleasant winter mantle. how good love
snow…all two feet of it in my driveway!!

Now don’t get me wrong, I really love snow (send more!) but it does
take its toll: my back hurt a little and it became more difficult for me to keep
My eyes widened as the day progressed. I slept like a rock that night.

It could have been worse, I could have completely annihilated myself trying
to shovel it all at once. We do it all the time. bite off more than we can
chewing, or getting impatient and trying to get through or into things. Can
apply this to other areas of life as well. If we rush into things, we can
end up suffering in the long run.

Do you know how I handled the snow? Little by little. Little by little. I went out to the
7 am and I shoveled the first 9 inches. So my wife and I went out two
more times that day to take care of the rest. I learned this “technique”
from my father When I was younger he always had me outside clearing
the driveway with him, against my better (punk) judgment at the time.
We hung out at regular intervals to “keep up” as he put it. Elegant.

Now, how many times do we not think about “going ahead” of things in our
lives. I don’t know about you, but I do it all the time. I want things done
Right now, I can’t bear to wait. Lately, I’ve noticed my attitude change
a bit. I’m still impatient in some ways, but I’m more patient with myself.
I am the one who needs to develop, and that takes time.

If you feel like you’re getting nowhere, even wasting your time, take heart. Life
it is not meant to be lived through in a day, or even a week. life is development
learning and experimenting.

Don’t waste your life worrying about time. Live life using time. Little by little.
