Villain costumes at theme parties are more fun

Why would you have more fun dressing up as a villain? Let’s see the main reasons would be:

  • Evasion
  • Only
  • Association

Escapism: Let’s face it, now one lives a perfect life. Those who make a face that they do LIE. Everyone wants to be able to put on a different mask and hide away for a while and not be responsible for what they do. That’s why we like to dress up. It is the opportunity to portray another part of your own ego. An opportunity to have fun. An opportunity to bring out that naughty side that you have repressed. Unique: When you go to a costume party, you want to be different from others. If it’s a superhero theme, come dressed in a supervillain costume. You’ll stand out, and let’s face it, it could pay off, especially if you want to stand out. You could become a makeshift event officer or be asked to help out with other worthwhile tasks. While there may be 2-3 guests dressed as Superman, there can only be one dressed as Joker or Bizaro! Association – This tends to go back to escapism, as it will allow you to associate with said villain you are masquerading as. So at this point, perhaps a better question is why do people associate better with villains? Here are some of the reasons:

  • socially incorrect
  • most extravagant
  • More colorful
  • Compassion

Let’s explore each one in more detail.

1) Socially Incorrect – More often than not, villains aren’t bound (or stifled) by social restrictions or they’ve had enough and let loose with reckless abandon. This represents a darker impulse that all of us have, including the heroes, to really let go and not care about the political correctness that minority groups have imposed. They don’t care, for the most part, what the rest of society thinks. They’ll be as happy to stomp on a granny as a bodybuilder, and usually have the gadgets, weapons, or powers to do so as well.

2) More extravagant: the image of the bad boy. Let’s face it, they are more confident as they just don’t care what attraction the opposite sex sees and gravitates towards. It’s a case of the bad boy getting the girl and the NICE Guy missing out. They also don’t hold back when it comes to displays of power and let’s face it, most of the really flashy explosions are masterminded by villains.

3) More colorful: This goes back to social restrictions or a lack of compliance with these guidelines. They set the dress code and woe to anyone who ridicules them! How often at school do you see the CROWD sporting some ridiculous outfit, and yet when the so-called geeks come out with something half decent, they get slapped for it?

4) Sympathy – The villains, who are they? They could have been heroes, and yet they had a tragic past that led them down the darkest path. Examples: Darth Vader, Magneto, Doctor Doom, Doctor Octopus. They turned their backs on an indifferent world and took control. Only Heroes try to stop them and as such they are seen as the champions of the masses. How many times have you been embarrassed, ridiculed or even scorned by someone in the crowd and wished for a painful and ill-gotten ending for them? On some level, you can sympathize with the villain. Stories with two-dimensional villains often flop, as the ones with the most force per pound have a hook for the audience to associate with. Also, don’t forget to bring a camera to the event so you can capture all the memories.

Now if you’re thinking of throwing your own themed party, Villain Costumes has information on what to keep in mind to make sure your party runs smoothly, as well as on-hand information on how to make your own chainmail armor, Not to mention, you can also buy your own costumes for your next Fancy Dress event, Theme Party, LARP or Cosplay or just urban clothing for everyday life. Even if you go to a normal party you can have your own motif added by the streetwear you wear. You could wear a t-shirt proclaiming you an “evil genius” or some other statement like the Minions wanted. What could be a great pickup line for a guy or a girl. “Hello, would you like to be my evil minion?” This is definitely more low-key, but it’s worth doing for the ice-breaking factor. In any case the goal is to have fun and enjoy.
