War Horse is an epic adventure film directed and produced by Steven Spielberg, the genius behind blockbusters like Jaws (1975) and Jurassic Park (1993), to name a few. The film is based on the play “War Horse”, which was also taken from the novel War Horse, written by Michael Morpurgo and published in 1982.

The film will be released on December 28, 2011.

War Horse will be a family adventure film aimed primarily at children and young people. It is set in the First World War in England and details the story of a boy named Albert and his pet horse named Joey. Due to the demands of the battle, Joey is sold to the army, much to Albert’s dismay. Later, Albert is informed that his beloved friend has been sent to the front, also known as No Man’s Land, along with the British cavalry. Albert later realizes that in order to save Joey from the evils of war, he must retrieve him from the battlefield as a soldier, and not as a child. Albert and Joey’s journey takes them into situations that will shape their lives and those of others.

War Horse features the incomparable performances of David Thewlis, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jeremy Irvine, Emily Watson, and David Kross.

War Horse (the play) is an award-winning Broadway musical that began its run in plays on October 17, 2007.
