What is the difference between Stream and Fogger pepper spray?

Pepper or OC sprays are commonly found in two spray patterns, squirt and mist. So what is the difference between a regular pepper spray and a spray bottle? Like most products, there are advantages and disadvantages based on the features. A variety of product creates a consumer’s preference based on the individual’s application. A brief explanation of the jet and mist defense spray will clarify the difference and highlight some of the pros and cons of both models of pepper spray.

In terms of effectiveness, the nebulizer atomizer can be considered the most effective compared to the jet type. A jet spray is believed to be the least effective because the jet tends to trap the OC within the canister and does not allow the active chemical to be released as generously as a mist. However, the advantage of the waterjet is that it will disperse a more precise range of up to 20 feet. Also, at the end of the stream, the OC splits into smaller droplets to increase efficiency. A stream of water well aimed at the face is very likely to instantly stop an assailant. Another advantage of the stream is that it is not as affected by the wind or breeze as a fogger would. A jet of water can withstand even a relatively strong breeze and is unlikely to recede to give you adequate protection over a longer range.

Mist sprays deploy a super fine mist, similar to a fire extinguisher, and are considered the most effective defense spray in terms of stopping power. An assailant trapped in an OC fog is instantly rendered defenseless. The nozzle of a nebulizer and the high pressure of the canister will offer a range of 15 to 20 feet and, at closer distances, it will only be slightly affected by the breeze or wind. Fogger pepper sprays also provide an excellent barrier against multiple assailants, as the mist tends to linger and remain undisturbed for several minutes. The downside to most mist-type aerosols is that the higher pressure and wide chemical distribution result in fewer injections or uses per unit. A typical 4oz high pressure unit can give you just 6 shots and a smaller 2oz unit just two.
